The North Charleston Performing Arts Center and Charleston Area Convention Center

The North Charleston Performing Arts Center and Charleston Area Convention Center debuted over 15 years ago as Charleston's largest setting for trade shows, conventions, meetings, concerts, symphonies, and art festivals. The carpet, originally supplied by Brintons in 1999, has held up exceptionally well under an estimated 400 million visitors and almost two decades of traffic. Renovating the carpet was initially voted against due to the strength and durability of Brintons' Axminster product. However the need to remain fresh and competitive prevailed, and the facility initiated the renovation with hopes the carpet would graciously endure another 20 years.

Brintons, in collaboration with Charleston based architecture and design firm LS3P, designed the 14,000 square yard tribute to Charleston's natural environment. Senior Interior Designer, Kelly Gilreath explains the critical nature of Brintons carpet for an interior:    "The carpet sets the tone for the entire design scheme of the space; weaving a cohesive relationship with the existing interior architecture and the beauty of Charleston's natural lowcountry setting."

Working with Brintons was a very easy process. We really tried hard to eliminate all borders and hard line transitions from one pattern to the next. This was especially important due the fact we were trying to emulate patterns and textures of nature. The colors and patterns fade and melt into one another. It’s sometimes hard to tell where one carpet ends and another starts! The Brintons design team put the final touches together helping to transform the designs from actual carpet to beautiful artwork.
