Chumash Casino Resort

The story of the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians is a story of hope, optimism and success. It’s a story that represents a dream that started many years ago with its ancestors and will continue on with future generations of the tribe.

Located in the heart of Santa Barbara’s wine country, the Chumash Casino Resort is a 106-room luxury hotel that includes the largest full-service spa in the Santa Ynez Valley. Brintons worked with sfa Design to create an impressive large scale pattern in bitumen backed axminster tiles.

Representing a modern take on the Chumash culture, the design for the Chumash Resort Casino juxtaposes contemporary colors and whimsical shapes against subtle authentic tribal imagery. Sfa was inspired by a graphic painting, Parmotrema by Rex Ray, and worked with Brintons to combine elements of that piece with symbols of the Chumash to create a fresh, custom design. We worked within the palette of the Chumash Tribe’s colors, vibrant reds, oranges, yellows, blues and greens, all colors found in the historical Chumash rock art.
