Portland International Airport

Brintons is proud to have partnered with Hennebery Eddy Architects, Inc., Rubenstein’s, and the Portland International Airport (PDX) to reintroduce one of Portland’s most beloved design icons: the original PDX carpet.

Originally produced in 1989 by US Axminster and now part of the extensive Brintons design archive, the carpet was never just flooring—it was a visual tribute to aviation. The pattern, featuring a teal base and intersecting red, purple, and blue lines, mirrored the view of PDX’s runways as seen from the air traffic control tower at night. Over time, this distinctive design became a symbol of Portland pride and a celebrated piece of local culture.

When the original carpet was removed in 2015, Portlanders waited for its return. Now, nearly a decade later, PDX chose Brintons to lead the effort in faithfully reproducing the iconic design.

Every detail of the carpet’s geometric pattern and bold color palette was meticulously recreated. The result is not just a reproduction, but a restoration— woven with the same dedication to quality and craftsmanship that defines all Brintons carpets.

It has been my pleasure to work with Brintons Carpet at Portland International Airport (PDX) over many years. We are again verry happy to be working with Brintons on the major PDX Renovation which brings the Iconic PDX Carpet back to Portland.
