Hilton Cleveland Downtown Hotel

Brintons collaborated with Anderson Miller Ltd and the Hilton Global Design team to create over 20,000 square yards of fully custom Axminster carpets at the new Hilton Cleveland Downtown Hotel in Ohio.

The intensive process of designing the public space carpets for Hilton Cleveland Downtown Hotel began with inspiration images of dissipating clouds, line work extracted from city maps, and an abundance of texture. Each area of use was treated differently but designed with unity in mind. Corridor carpets incorporate shadows of line work echoed in the elevator lobby, large scaled textures flow below contrasting surface layers, and a strictly applied palette creates harmony throughout the interior.

Concerning the grand ballroom, the specified design needed to be dramatic and mechanical but loose and organic enough to spill into the public areas seamlessly. The Brintons team was also challenged with creating a cohesive design which reflected the geometric beams to be later installed as lighting elements in the ceiling. The end result is a show stopping design with carefully constructed angles cutting through a sea of frosty abstract texture influenced by Lake Erie. The junior ballroom designs were treated in a similar fashion as the larger public spaces – with organic forms resembling clouds floating effortlessly into the prefunction. The color palette calls to the unique nature of Cleveland with the neutral hues representing industry and cool blues pulled from the surrounding landscape.

To make sure expectations were met, we held several working sessions with Brintons, the Hilton Global Design Team, and Anderson Miller Ltd (AML) where we reviewed pattern work on both the macro and micro scale. The overall design process was very smooth and it was a pleasure to work with Brintons designer, Mandy Middlehurst.
