Celebrity Edge

Celebrity Edge is the first in Celebrity Cruises’ new class of ship, built to appeal to the contemporary traveller. The cruise line engaged a number of world renowned designers for their first ship in a new fleet of four, including Tom Wright who designed Dubai’s Burj Al Arab Hotel and Kelly Hoppen MBE with a guiding brief to bring the ocean closer, blurring boundaries between inside and out.

Brintons worked with Christy Morales, Designer at Royal Caribbean Ltd to provide nearly 36,000m2 of luxury custom Axminster carpets to the 129,500 tonne $1 billion luxury liner.

"The Celebrity Edge ship was unlike any project I had worked on before, which is why it appealed to me. It was important for the design to be forward-thinking, I wanted to create something truly unique and contemporary; the idea was to create a 5-star luxury resort, that could be experienced on the sea. We really broke the mould with the design of this ship, pushing the boundaries of design and Brintons was a perfect partner to help achieve this"

Kelly Hoppen MBE

Interior Designer

Kelly Hoppen is the designer behind Celebrity Edge’s spectacular new accommodations, including the brand new Iconic Suites, Edge Villas, and the most transformational aspect of our stateroom design: the Edge Stateroom with Infinite Balcony. Not to mention Kelly was also at the forefront of creating The Retreat. A luxurious, private space comprising indoor and outdoor areas. Exclusively for Suite Class guests. Kelly Hoppen collaborated with Brintons to create custom colours for a fresh tonal palette with accents of brighter colours that complimented each design scheme. The carpets feature contemporary geometric and organic designs in on-trend colourways, subtle textured backgrounds with stronger geometric motifs provide a timeless luxury feel.

Custom axminster carpets were also manufactured by Brintons for Eden, spanning three decks at the aft of the ship with almost 7,000 sqft. of glass, the Patricia Urquiola-designed space has more outward-facing glass than any other room at sea. For the design of this space, the Spanish architect and designer looked to the golden ratio, a mathematical formula that informs many of the curves found in nature. Brintons also supplied carpets for the Cyprus restaurant and The Club which Urquiola also decorated.

Brintons carpets were also featured in the Tuscan Restaurant, Raw on 5, Normandie Restaurant, Le Grand Bistro, Cosmopolitan Restaurant, Café al Bacio, Steakhouse, Concierge Desk and Theatre.

Brintons continue to excel at designing carpets for the marine industry. The manufacturer has extensive experience providing carpets for a range of luxury cruise ships including Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 and P&O Cruises. As the largest supplier of woven Axminster carpets in the world, Brintons’ knowledge and expertise in this method of carpet manufacturing places them at the forefront of carpet producers in this industry and allowed them to push the boundaries of creating carpets for such a luxury environment. The results of this project awarded Celebrity Edge with the accolade of Best New Ship, as voted for by Cruise Critic.
