An inspirational carpet collection

Brintons proudly presents our Self Expression Spring 2026 collection from Maxine Kane, Senior Designer.

Exuvia takes its name from the process of shedding and renewal. Inspired by a country park in Haydock, a village in northwest England, the collection reflects a landscape shaped over time by industry, change, and regeneration. Once the site of two coal mines and later repurposed as a landfill, it has since evolved into a restored natural environment, capturing a compelling relationship between past and present.

Drawing from layered histories, the collection evolves through a series of “lives,” each formed by four designs. Within each, colour and imagery echo what once was. No life is replaced, only shed—leaving traces, textures, and memory to be absorbed into the next, like skin outgrown but never forgotten.

About Maxine Kane, Designer of EXUVIA

Maxine has been a Senior Designer with Brintons for nearly three years and brings over 35 years of experience in the carpet industry. After leaving Art College in 1987, she began her career at just 19 as an assistant colourist. Soon after, she progressed to a junior designer role, where she mixed paints and translated hand-painted sketches onto gridded paper—long before the introduction of specialised carpet design software.

Throughout her career, Maxine has worked across all areas of a busy design studio, spending over 20 years specialising in production design. This experience has given her a deep understanding of both the technical constraints and evolving innovations within the carpet industry.

Since joining Brintons, Maxine has rediscovered a passion for pattern and colour, thriving on the opportunity to create fresh and imaginative designs.
