Trends

Brintons have identified a number of relevant and interesting trend directions that are current or emerging.

Big Pattern

Brintons has developed unique weaving technology which eliminates the need for pattern repeats. This is being used to create some very dramatic and large scale patterns, which sit well with the 'Big Pattern' trend currently developing.

The love affair with Damasks has just about become over saturated. However new inventions on the Damask theme and big scale classic designs overlaid with circular or barcode designs create an unusual and dramatic new slant to a well used theme. See our Timorous Beasties by Brintons - First Weave collection for the best examples of this.

The ability to do big pattern designs means that designers are no longer restricted by symmetrics. Interior spaces will be defined in new ways using pattern on a big scale. Corridors, for instance, will no longer have to be symmetrical in design. For the best examples of inventiveness and daring approaches to interior designs, particularly corridors, see Timorous Beasties by Brintons - First Weave collection.

In harmony with big scale are beautiful smaller geometric inspired designs - though not the tired retro designs from the 60’s and 70’s. The best examples are new variations on a theme and from a rich cultural background particularly the Far and Middle East. Brintons are currently intending to launch some new inspirational collections that will offer clients many new and stimulating options on this theme.

Quality of materials is important and should be counted as a trend in itself, especially when used in conjunction with simple new geometrics. The contemporary trend works beautifully when it is partnered with high quality products and materials, yet so wrong when used with low end materials.

Moving forward, I see high quality materials being used in sophisticated colour sets becoming the next trend. Trend forecasters are emphasising the importance of brighter and bolder colours on the international scene. There is a lot of stronger colour in high street fashion. Interestingly, I see the best influences from fashion in combinations of colours - not just one colour being popular over another.

Colour Trends

  • Olive/green and yellow neutrals being used with aubergine is still popular
  • Celadon/jade over taupe is wonderful in the right tones.
  • Neutrals of deep mocha brown used with navy and olive gold.
  • Jade used with brown gold and rust
  • Black and white are very popular (again!) and grey is strong – through warm, cool and yellow influences.
  • Candy stripes e.g those seen on men’s shirts
  • Strong stripes in jade with gold and brown and olive in velvet velour pile material
  • Materials are being mixed in with colour so we see shiny surfaces playing off against matt e.g. coloured glass with aluminium on very dark brown wood, or shiny velour on matte cotton backgrounds
  • Flock wall coverings in damask designs. Mixing old with new is still important and great fun.
  • Iconic designers and architects see their past influences being resurrected again and again, especially in furniture. This just shows how well designed and significant their work was when it was first created.
  • Natural materials dominate - wool or wool rich products in Carpet. Specialised yarn effects add dimension and texture.

Carpet Trends of the Future

  • World travel: design trends will be influenced by different cultures merging together.
  • The trend to using quality materials allied to high quality designed goods is sure to grow, perhaps evolving through new technologies which allow for more creativity.
  • Technology influencing style. Specialised designs on carpets used across the style spectrum: from huge ultra-modern simple designs with texture, through to classical, beautifully and expertly drawn designs as the centre pieces for public areas. The us of carpets in the fashion may not be limited to the floor.
  • Interiors will become more sophisticated using different material mixes across different styles
  • Lighting will be used with carpet to create atmosphere from the floor up
  • High quality will grow, marking out the best from the rest of the field by combining the best in design with the best of materials. Brands built on this will endure across fashion.
