History

Brintons is a privately owned family business, established in 1783. Today, Michael Brinton, the current Chairman, represents the sixth generation.

The first mill is opened.
1818
Brintons silver jubilee.
1876
Brintons head office is built and opened in Exchange Street, Kidderminster
1883
Brintons celebrates its centenary.
1890
After six years of development, Brintons patents the gripper Axminster loom.
1904
Brintons Engineering Department is established. From this day forward the company they make all their looms.
1909
Brintons builds its first broadlooms (all had previously been 27" narrow looms).
1933
Brintons celebrates 150 years in business.
1950
Brintons pioneers the use of the 80% wool 20% nylon blend for carpets.
1955
The British wool quality symbol is registered.
1957
The Royal Warrant is granted to Brintons in recognition of supplying carpets to Royal residences.
1966
Bell Twist is manufactured for the first time.
1971
Brintons USA is formed in order to give the company better representation in the North American market.
1975
Telford expansion makes it the largest carpet yarn plant in Europe.
1976
Brintons becomes the first company to introduce Computer Aided Design (CAD) for carpets.
1980
Brintons' 4.00 metre gripper axminster loom is put into service. The Paris showroom is opened.
1983
Brintons celebrates 200 years in business.
1986
Brintons invests £10 million in a new spinning mill at Telford, UK.
1991
Brintons Industria de Alcatifas Limitada (Brintons Portugal) is built and opened, housing 10 axminster looms.
1993
Brintons Mk15 (5.00 metre) wilton face-to-face loom is developed.
1997
Brintons is awarded the world’s largest ever woven carpet order. 135,000 square metres of custom designed axminster is supplied for the new Chek Lap Kok international airport, Hong Kong. The carpet is woven to withstand the footfall of 35 million passengers each year.
1998
Brintons wins its first Queen’s Award for Export Achievement. Brintons acquires U.S Axminster, Greenville, Mississippi, USA. The acquisition makes Brintons the world’s largest axminster carpet manufacturer.
1999
Brintons' "Spotlight" patented system for dyeing stipple yarns is awarded Millennium product status by the Design Council. It is also British Wool’s "Yarn of the Year". Group turnover tops £100 million. Construction of a new factory in Pune, India begins.
2000
Brintons India is officially opened. The company wins the coveted "Supplier of the Year" in the UK floorcovering industry awards. In addition, readers of Contract Floors magazine award Brintons the accolade of "Supplier 2000", this award is based on quality, customer service, product range and price.
2001
Brintons is awarded the "Manufacturing Excellence Award" (MX2001), beating competition from British Aerospace and Jaguar. The success is recognition of the tremendous progress made by the company in the areas of customer focus, product and process innovation, as well as the efficient use of resources.
2005
Brintons supplies 20,000 square metres of custom woven carpet for P&O's Arcadia. The 83,000 tonne cruise liner is the most luxurious vessel ever built exclusively for British passengers.
Readers of the magazine Contract Flooring Journal award Brintons "Best Broadloom Product" for its commercial stocked range portfolio.
2006
Brintons supplies over 20,000 square metres of custom woven carpet for the new Wembley Stadium, London, UK.
Our new design studio in Pune, India is opened.
Brintons win the BCFA award for "Innovation in Weaving Technology" with the 651 loom which can weave up to 24 colours.
Brintons win the "Retail Floors" Reader's choice award for media campaign of the year.
2007
Brintons collaborate with leading design duo Timorous Beasties to create "First Weave", a collection of designs which are large in scale and go against almost every conventional rule.
Elle Decor announce Timorous Beasties by Brintons First Weave collection as a nominee for "Design of the Year 2007".
Brintons Bell Twist wins "Best Woven Carpet" in the Flooring Industry Awards, 2007.
